I was born in Modesto, CA in March of 1944. Upon graduation from Thomas
Downey H.S. in 1962, I attended one year at the Modesto Junior
College. After deciding that I just was not ready to complete a college
education, I headed out into the world by driving the ALCAN Hwy to Alaska with a cousin,
and spent most of a year living in a log cabin on a wilderness homestead. I was in the
heart of Anchorage when the Great Alaskan Good Friday Earthquake (Richter 10.2
for 5.5 min.) hit in April of 1964. My next adventure
was to serve as a missionary for my church in the frigid
north central states and Manitoba province of Canada.Returning back home to California in the spring of 1965 brought an almost concurrent
notice to report for the military army draft. Enlisting in the Navy seemed like
a better option, so I committed the next 4 years to serving aboard the USS
Camden AOE-2 off the coast of Vietnam as a yeoman. I also developed
skills as a photographer which continues as a hobby.
After my discharge from the Navy, our family settled in Livermore, CA.
I began pursuing an education in Business and Marketing. I was also
working at a local camera store and after graduation, I decided to open my own
store. Foto Facets was a small retail store combined with a custom
darkroom with rental spaces for hobbyists. The business did well until the
great oil embargo of the mid-70's. Within 6 months time the nations
economy was in shambles, and I was out of business.
Having come to appreciate the value of having a higher education, I proceeded
to pursue a dream which I had for many years: of becoming a chiropractor.
By then we were a family of five, with three wonderful young red headed daughters. Moving
to Long Beach, CA, afforded me the opportunity to attend Cleveland Chiropractic
College in Los Angeles. During those 5 years, I worked as a professional
dog trainer. Upon graduation, I taught on faculty of the
chiropractic college while
preparing to move to S.E. Oklahoma where we planned to begin our new personal
and professional life.
In 1982, while awaiting my state license, I worked with my brother-in-law as a drug and alcohol counselor and
helped developed the state's first nutritionally based substance abuse recovery program.
My first clinic was built next door to our house in Valliant, OK. After
6 years in that location, we decided to move to a larger, more centralized
location in Idabel, OK. I spent the next 8 years in practice there and all
the while continuing to expand my understanding and applications of alternative
healing systems and techniques. In the 90's, I taught seminars on alternative healing
in Oklahoma and Texas to people from all over the US.
In 1995, I moved my practice to the Fort Worth, TX area. In starting
over, I re-examined my priorities on how to better serve my patients and developed a family
practice based on the principles of what I call "Old
Fashioned Chiropractic". I eliminated x-rays and all insurance processing
and went to just pure hands-on chiropractic and dedicating a sufficient amount of time on
each visit to truly attempt to meet the needs of each patient.
2008 marked my return to McCurtain Co., OK and establishing my current office
in Broken Bow. Hopefully, my last move!
